What is the Secret?????
The secret to rekindling passion and desire and having great sex at any age is showing your clients how to unlock the power of their sexual minds.
In my best-selling book, Blonna, R (2014) Sex-ACT: Unleash the Power of Your Sexual Mind with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, I explained that the reason this is true is because great sex begins and ends in the mind, not the genitals.
There are many different theories of sexual response starting with the one developed by the great Masters and Johnson. All of the theories propose that sexual response starts in the mind with desire and excitement and ends in the mind with satisfaction.
Desire is a psychological phenomenon, triggered by the thoughts and feelings going on in your clients minds. Without desire there is no sexual arousal.
When clients feel desire (are turned on), their minds switch on their bodies and sexual arousal begins. Arousal is a physiological phenomenon. During sexual arousal many different physiological reactions occur that trigger things like:
- changes in skin color
- increased respiration, heart rate, and muscle tension
For arousal to continue clients must maintain their desire and attention to the present moment.
This constant interplay between psychological (thoughts, feelings, etc.) and physiological factors (blood flow, muscle tension, etc.) continue throughout any sexual encounter.
If clients thoughts, feelings etc. are positive and helpful, sexual arousal continues to build and build until plateau is reached. Plateau is best described as the point of maximum sexual arousal, when clients are all wound up and ready to release their sexual tension.
Mind and body interact again to trigger the release of sexual tension and energy that comes with the next phase of sexual response, orgasm. Following orgasm body parts and systems return to the un-aroused state during resolution.
Lastly is the sense of satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) that clients feel when their minds reflect on the experience.
Psychological Flexibility is the Key to Unlock The Sexual Mind
As you can see, the mind plays a central role in sexual response. AC Coaching research has shown that the more psychologically flexible your clients are, the better able they are to manage troubling thoughts and painful emotions that create barriers to them living the kind of sex lives they want and deserve. Clients who are more psychologically-flexible tend to have more positive and helpful sexual thoughts, feelings and self-talk.
The great news is …
You can show your clients how to become more psychologically flexible and unleash the power of their sexual minds to help them build sexual desire, enjoy and prolong arousal and plateau, trigger orgasm, and enhance their overall sexual satisfaction.
