If so, watch this short video and start helping yourself and your clients take back your time and your life from the ravages of stress while earning 10 CEUs.

As a Nationally-Certified Coach (BCC), Counselor (NCC) and Health Education Specialist (CHES) I wore those three hats for over 30 years. Like you I also wore the hats of dad, husband, adult son, Little League Coach, and many, many, more. I know how helpers like us can easily get stretched too thin and become over-committed and overwhelmed. It’s hard for us to say no to the people and demands that put us over the edge when all of our lives we’ve been trained to serve and help others. It’s our nature, our passion, and what drew us to our careers. Unfortunately it is also what drives us over the edge and creates a lot of our stress. Unfortunately, it can also negatively affect the people we care very deeply about; our clients.

Here is my story:

I had just turned 40 and was fighting for tenure as a college professor in a Department of Community Health. It was December and end-of-the-year reports, final exam grades, a 300 page textbook manuscript, and a slew of other things were all due by the end of the month. I was so busy I tried to put my own stress on hold but I eventually wound up falling victim to it. What is even more ironic is that the textbook manuscript I was writing at the time was my very first on the subject of….. Stress Management  (yeah, pretty ironic). I was going to use the book in a new college course I was developing and would be teaching for the first in the following Spring Semester.

Typical Type A Personality

I was a typical Type A personality; so driven and obsessed with finishing the book, developing the course, and getting tenured, that I completely ignored my own stress symptoms (lower-back muscle tension and pain and daily anxiety). My typical work schedule consisted of 20 hour days, six days a week and relying on caffeine and other stimulants to keep me awake and focused. I had neglected my own exercise and health regimen thinking I could get through the final stages of the book and course on will power alone.

One morning in mid-December I woke up and as I rolled over to get out of bed, my lower back completely spasmed out on me. This sent me crashing to the floor and was writhing in pain as my back got tighter and tighter.  I wound up in the emergency room and was bed-ridden for a few days while the muscle-relaxing drugs and pain-killers did their work.

Knowing vs. Doing Something Concrete

The whole experience was a real eye-opener and made me realize that I needed more than just knowing a lot about stress, I had to start doing things every day to control it. I changed the focus of my textbook from a more theoretical to a prevention focus based on hardy-health habits. I created a multi-level defense system against stress called the Five R’s that my students and clients could use, every day, to manage our stress and build more stress-resistant lifestyles.

Twenty five years later I’m happy to report that my Five R’s of Coping Model has helped thousands of students and coaching clients all over the globe take back their lives from the ravages of stress.

My Promise to You

I can’t promise you that I can show you how to live a stress-free life. Honestly, it doesn’t exist. You have a job where you commit yourself to helping people who are hurting and in need. You have your own personal  responsibilities (a marriage or partnership, children, your kid’s college educations, a mortgage, aging parents that you love and want to help, etc. etc.). All of these responsibilities and demands are potentially stressful.

What I can promise you is to show you how to stress less, and live more. This in turn will help you serve your clients better. I believe in this so strongly that I made it my personal byline, wrote a book by the same name, and created a program just for you.

Stress Less Live More - Dr. Rich Blonna

The 10 CEU Program, Stress Coaching: A Five Step Approach, Will Help You (and your clients) Discover How To:

  • Slow down your runaway mind and keep it from jumping all over the place.
  • Stop worrying and stay focused despite being stressed.
  • Get rid of excess demands in your life that drain your energy and steal your time.
  • Say no to people and demands put you over the edge and create stress.
  • Relax your tense, achy muscles.
  • Release stress-related tension and energy in healthy ways.
  • Build a more stress-resistant lifestyle based on hardy health habits.

The 10 CEU Program, Stress Coaching: A Five Step Approachis a multi-level defense system against stress that revolves around the Five R’s of Coping Model.

The Five R's of Coping

Each “R” in the model , Rethink, Relax, Release, Reduce, and Reorganize, is a line of defense that uses multiple techniques to help you attack stress in a unique way. The five different levels work together to help you stress less and live more.

Reorganize shows you how to build a more stress-resistant lifestyle based on hardy health habits. This is your core defense against stress. You get step-by-step instructions for building hardy health habits across all seven dimensions of health. These give you more energy, more mental focus, and more coping resources every day.

Relax shows you how to shut down your stress response by putting your body in a relaxed state. You will master proven, easy-to-learn techniques that will relax you instantly.

Release shows you how to get rid of the tension and nervous energy associated with your stress. Instead of tossing and turning and losing sleep, you will release your stress-related tension and energy in healthy ways.

Rethink shows you short, and easy-to-apply, mental techniques that change the way you think about stress and your ability to handle it. Learn to stop stressful thinking by using the power of your mind.

Reduce shows you how to get rid of excess demands on your time and your energy.  Discover how to use time more efficiently to meet your values-based goals. Learn how to say no to the people and demands put you over the edge.

I know what you are probably thinking, “Who has the time to learn all this stress management and Five R’s of coping stuff?”

If you are like most coaches, counselors, or educators I’ve worked with over the years, your biggest barrier to managing your stress is TIME.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You are too busy to see a stress coach yourself and get the help you need.
  • Your shelves are littered with self-books, videos, and audios related to stress that you haven’t had the time to read, watch, or listen to.
  • Work and family commitments force you to cancel out of the stress management webinars and programs that you sign up for.
  • You’ve paid hundreds of dollars for self-help courses that you are too busy to take or attend.

This is where I can help you with your stress management and coping

Here is what others have to say about my work:

Cyndy Etler / MEd, ICF ACC / founder, The Teen Life Coach / award-winning author, The Dead Inside

I had learned about ACT coaching in my life coach training program, and had read Dr. Blonna’s book, MAXIMIZE YOUR COACHING EFFECTIVENESS WITH ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY. The approach really resonated with me, so I put this line on my never ending to do list: “Find more ACT coach training.”

As life stayed busy, and my teen life coaching business flourished, I realized that the greatest struggle my clients presented with was anxiety. When I reached out to my coaching trainer, asking what I should study to support youth with anxiety, her reply closed the loop: “Study ACT.”  A quick Google search netted this course. When I learned I’d earn CCEs toward my ICF recertification through completing it, the deal was sealed!

I got so much more out of this course than I did from reading the book. By watching a video, taking in-depth notes, and putting the strategies into action, I wasn’t learning ACT, I was practicing it. The results were immediate and, dare I say, miraculous.

Long short: if you want to learn strategies to help your clients (or yourself!) make quantifiable shifts in their lives—and if you’re willing to put in the mental work to not just watch the videos, but use the tools—don’t hesitate. Take this course!

Betty Bowman, Executive/Leadership Coach & CCE Board Certified Coach

Ken Buckworth – CPA in Private Practice

As a CPA in public practice, the thought that another stress-filled tax season was approaching was depressing. I decided to do something about it. Dr. Rich’s program delivers as advertised! I have gotten into an exercise routine, lost some weight and feel better. I have even started to meditate. I find that the little things at work aren’t bothering me as much. I also find that my “road rage” stress has decreased. I hope to maintain these improvements during my next few stressful work months, and I look forward to further improvement in the months following

Dr. Rich Blonna is an excellent coach. He taught me relaxation exercises, to help me relax in preparation for appearing on radio talk shows. I would recommend Rich to anyone who needs to learn stress management skills.

Christine Vay CLU Financial Planner

Dr. Rich and I have worked together for many years. I have read his books and handed them out to others, as well as used his CD on stress management. I also read his monthly newsletter. His tips and insights into reducing stress are incredibly helpful and a major part of my daily approach to a healthy lifestyle that is so important to me. I am convinced he is on to key ideas that will help keep me well for a long time and enable me to continue to be a relaxed and effective financial adviser in the otherwise very stressful world of advising.
